What do you think was Albert Einstein's dominant religious view, averaged over his lifetime?
Einstein was a Deist for most of his life. As a child and once when he was a young physicist he adopted Judaism, but both times he turned away. He thought of God as a creator that placed the universe in motion, but not as the personal god of most theistic religions. He referred to God as "The Old Man" and thought that through the knowledge of science and by discovering the unifying principles of physics we could "read the mind of God." That was what he was working on when he died; the fabled "Theory of Everything."
